How to Curb 5 year old w/ A Languages Obsession

Ok so my oldest DS is going to be 5 next month. He's a very bright young boy and is constantly wanting to learn. He does have sensory processing disorder, which means that some activities and him don't work out and then some are just an excellent match. One of those excellent matches has become foreign languages. He loves them, craves them, and lives for them. It's non-stop with this little guy. He knows partial Spanish, some German, and a tiny French. He, also, knows two different sets of sign language (one is the American style and the other he created for his baby brother because he was so young that BabySigns wasn't matching up). Needless to say, I have a 9 month old that is completely fluent in his brother's made up baby signing program.

Anyways, we just purchased PowerGlide German and was wondering if this was a good program and also if anybody knew of additional resources that may go well with it. We chose this because it has auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning all of which will work great with his SPD. I was going to start with Spanish but he chose German and begged for it. He literally sits around looking at teachers catalogs reading about the language programs and browsing Spanish dictionaries, etc. How can I feed my little boys love of languages? I feel like I should be doing as much as possible to help him in this area. He has a gift and a yearning of languages beyond anything I've ever seen for his age and I want to make sure I am doing everything possible to help him with this. I want to make sure that I have all the necessary resources to help him along as well. If you have any suggestions or comments on curriculum it would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend getting a mutlisystem dvd player (220electronics.com) and some German dvds (that usually have language choices so when he's done with German, he can try French or Spanish or Turkish...) and let him watch.

It sounds like he is still able to pick up languages naturally, the same way he learned English. Watching movies will provides lots more exposure to the language.

German dvds are available from amazon.de. I ordered a bunch at once to consolidate shipping.

It's so crazy that you would say that because he does that now! Except he does it with his Disney movies and he started doing it on his own. We kept wondering why it would always be on a different language when one day I was walking down the hall and heard it once again except this time he was reciting the words right along with it! I think this is one way that he has learned as much as he knows when it comes to languages. I definately need to try the multisystem dvd player! I bet he would LOVE it!

These are definately great ideas. I will have to take a look at those cards as well. I need to start learning languages soon so I can help him along, he's actually been teaching me LOL but it's nice for him to be the teacher for a change, he literally sits there going "no mommy try it like this" and says it slowly LOL. It cracks my husband up!
