Guest macmomma7
Hello, I was wondering if anyone has used the new Writing With Ease program yet and if they have, what they thought. I have used the First Language Lessons 1-3. Do I need to use this new program or does it cover they same things in First Language Lessons? I am getting ready to order for next year, so any input would be wonderful! Thanks

Lovedtodeath
WWE 1 starts out with narration and copywork. It breaks down the narration into smaller chunks with more helps than FLL, and the selections are from a variety of sources. Really great rich selections. We prefer them over FLL. From what I have seen of WWE 2, I am not happy with the lack of direction for the dictation. I like the idea of studied dictation, not just dictating something out of the blue and telling my kids to write it. It makes no sense to me. Maybe someone can address that for me? There are extensive samples on the PHP site. HTH.

We're using the WWE2 workbook - the dictation samples, at least through most of the book, are the same as the copywork samples the day before. So the child has had a chance to study and copy the dictation the day before it's dictated.
LauraJ
Yes, WWE 2 does have dictation with meaning. Yesterday, my son had to locate the nouns and adjectives, with my leading, and we talked about them. At the beginning of the book, we learned our punctuation through our copywork and dictation. It is very thorough! :)
Lovedtodeath
Thanks for clearing that up for me!
Larissa
and we find that though there is some dictation and copywork in FLL, it is not a regular thing. We are doing FLL 1/2 with WWE 1 with my 1st grader and FLL 3 and WWE2 with my 3rd grader. They have both made progress in their narration skills. I really enjoy the stories they use. We have often gone to the library to read the rest of the book after reading a short section in WWE. Larissa in NJ
Emma
Where would you recommend placing a 4th grader in WWE and FLL?
Lovedtodeath
I would put a 4th grader in FLL 3, and read the samples on the PHP site for WWE, it should help you decide where to place him. My first instinct would be WWE 2, but it depends on how much experience he has in TWTM style narration.
Colleen in NS
Hello,I was wondering if anyone has used the new Writing With Ease program yet and if they have, what they thought. I have used the First Language Lessons 1-3. Do I need to use this new program or does it cover they same things in First Language Lessons? I am getting ready to order for next year, so any input would be wonderful! Thanks I think of WWE as the writing program and FLL as the grammar program. FLL has a bit of writing in it, but WWE is a thorough writing program (which also helps you practice the grammar/punc. of FLL!). I love using WWE - it helped fix some difficulties my son was having, and now my dd is going through it, learning to narrate and learning to get her words on paper. Psm73
So for my dd who has done FLL 1-3 and will be doing 4 next year, should I do WWE2 or 3? She knows all the parts of speech, etc. We just need to practice writing.
Emma
LOVEDTODEATH, thanks for the recomendations. He absolutely hates grammar/writing,(typical boy,) so I think starting him in a slightly lower level would be fine for him. We've used Abeka. How do FLL and WWE compare? Will it be hard for ME to use? I do like the "do the next page" ability of Abeka.
Lovedtodeath
I haven't used Abeka for grammar, so I don't know. But FLL and WWE are definitely "do the next page" types. I like to do the copywork and narration of WWE, which is scheduled over 2 days in only one. That helps me to juggle the two books. FLL 3 starts at the beginning, so there is no need for FLL 1 and 2, but it is used for 4th grade quite a bit, and after FLL 4 a lot of kids go into level 6 in another program, so I wouldn't think of it as a step back. Mallory
To be ready for WWE 3, your child should be able to take a dictation of one long (12-15 words) or two short sentances, after two readings. Also be able to answer questions and summarize a passage of a page or two, and then write down his narration from dictation. Otherwise start with level two. Psm73
Thanks, Mallory. That was a huge help.
