mamato3 all-boy boys
I know there are many people who continue on with LL2, but if anyone did *not* continue with LL2 after finishing the first book (for whatever reason), what did you move on to? TIA
Dixie
I, too, would like to know this. Dixie

mamato3 all-boy boys
Dixie, I think you and I are the only ones who want to know this, LOL!
SBP
Nope, I want to know, too!! We will probably go on to LL2, but it will depend on when we finish LL1 and how quickly the new chapters of LL2 are being released. If it looks as though we're likely to get hung up waiting on new chapters, I might have to consider something else. (We don't do the history portions, so we move more quickly through the material than we would otherwise.) I love LL, but it took me three years of false starts to get some momentum going with Latin, and I don't want us to lose that. So... :bigear: SBP
Jen500
Well, my boys want to do LL2, but I'm also considering Galore Park's Latin. I'm not sure which book would be a good follow-up to LL1.
Alana in Canada
I'm going to go with LL2. BUT I am also going to supplement with translation. At the moment, I'm strongly considering Minimus. Nonetheless, I may be in these shoes in about 6 months, who knows? So this is what I would do. Here is a link to an evaluation of various programs. http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/latincurricula.htm I'd look up any which sounded appealing and look closely at the scope and sequence of the different programs and try and find the best place where we could slot ourselves in. It may not be all that easy! Here is the syllabi for the National Latin Exam. It may give you an idea where we are in the whole study of Latin scheme of things. http://www.nle.org/syllabi.html hth. hth.
Shasta Mom
I've been wondering what to do, too. Not because all the chapters aren't out yet - we won't be ready probably 'till the fall, but because after LL2 we will presumably go to Galore Park. From what I've read on these boards, Galore Park 1 would be mostly review. If that's the case, is it worth it to spend one more year on LL, before going to GP or should I jump into it next. That said, we really enjoy LL - it's been my favorite curriculum of the year for all our subjects, and I like everything we're using... PollyOR
I'm going to move 13yo into First Form. I like LL, but she thinks she's too old? 10yo will move to LL2. Edited March 31, 2009 by PollyOR
Laura Corin
Latin Prep would be okay for next year for your (then) ten year old. Nine is the very youngest I would start a child on Latin Prep - ten is safer. I'd start with book 1, so you don't miss anything, but just move as fast as needed if the topics have been well covered by LL1. Best wishes Laura
Dixie
I've done some more looking around and I think that First Form by Memoria Press or Latin Alive from Classical Academic Press may work for us. I am hoping that I will be able to look at these at convention in a couple of weeks. I trust you are able to find something that will work for you.:) Dixie

If you do both LL1 and 2, and then go on to LP, I remember reading that LP1 would be mostly review - perhaps not do the workbooks, and that a lot of LP2 would be review, also, but perhaps good review. Given this info, I'm still not sure if it would be better to continue on with LL2, given that our plan is to then jump to LP. Would it be better to finish LL1 and then go straight to LP if we were headed that way anyway? Would we waste a year by doing LL2 and then starting LP? Any advice? Deb in NZ
I am planning to have him work through LL2 next. If we move quicker than LL2 is coming out, I do have LP & SYRWTL Latin that we could use as my ds#1 & dd are using those now. I have read that LL2's lessons are a lot more work than LL1, so we'll probably be OK with LL2. After ds#2 finishes LL2, my plan is for him to move to either LP or SYRWTL Latin. Some will be review, but as it is a different book his Latin skills will be reinforced. We do use LL as written as ds#2 likes the way the type of work covered is varied. I'm finding that the "slow & steady" approach is very effective with him. JMHO,
rainforest mama
Would anyone do Henle after LL2? We're still working our way through LL1, so we've got a ways to go, but I also want to figure out our path forward ASAP. I'm all ears. :bigear:
SBP
That's been my tentative plan. LL1 in 5th grade, LL2 in 6th, and then start Henle in 7th. Out of curiosity, does anyone here know if Catherine Drown has a recommendation for where students should go after LL2? SBP
