This program is the only reason art gets done at my house. I'm more of a science person, so teaching art doesn't come naturally to me! The projects are fun and she gives you questions to help them evaluate their project. The only complaint I would have is that sometimes there's not much information given on how to explain the art topic you are exploring (ex. texture gives movement in a painting as a topic). For this art illiterate mom, it leaves me wondering what to say. At this point though I'm not to concerned about art theory as much as I am about her being introduced to different mediums and topics within art. We plan on continuing to use the program. Hope that helps you!

Thanks for your input!

Has no one else ever used this? Anyone?

I am using level 3 for a high school co-op group. I have not seen the lower levels, but I like level 3 for older kids. This is a project based exposure to creating various types of art rather than an art history curriculum.

Each year contains a section on painting, design, drawing, sculpture, and crafts. Within each year you also cover line, shape/form, color, and texture.

At the end of each project there are evaluation and review questions to discuss with the student. These questions are never critical. For example, in year A one of the crafts is creating and painting a clay slab pot with texture. The questions for evaluation and review are:

Which textures are the most effective at creating contrast and emphasis?

What areas of your pot do you like the best?

How do you like the slab method as compared to other methods you have used before (i.e., coil pot, pinch pot)? Which do you prefer?

Is there anything that you would like to have done differently with your pot?

HTH-

Mandy

My DH paints for a hobby so he teaches art and he likes Art Adventures at Home (level 3). It's open and go - 90% of the time there's no prep. The other 10% he might need to buy clay or something we don't have around the house. And the topics are exactly what I remember learning in High School art.
