Katiebug_1976
We have been using R&S English, and it is very heavy on the grammar, but not so much on the creative writing. Dh and I are looking for a LA program that focuses more on writing papers, brainstorming, outlining etc. We feel that those are very important skills to have especially if our dc intend to go on to college. Does anyone know of a good curriculum for this?
MomZ
I have not tried it, but I am strongly considering WinterPromise's LA program. It looks very good to me and very full.
Ellie
The writing in R&S really picks up in 7th (although I don't think it ever focuses on "brainstorming"). Personally, I would stick with R&S.

There are quite a few people here that have used it successfully. However, they use different resources. We started with a Student Writing Intensive and will then move to a Theme-Based Writing resource. Does anyone know of a good curriculum for this? We are using Write Shop for 6th-7th-8th. It is very specific about learning to brainstorm, write first draft, edit, write 2nd draft, edit, write final. It leads the student through many different ways to brainstorm. You may read my review in this thread.
HiddenJewel
Keep in mind when you are looking that creative writing and writing skills for college/life are two different things. In our house, creative writing is optional but general writing formats, essays, and research papers are required.
Homeschooling6
Have you looked at Character Quality Language Arts? It's on sale right now. I'm considering this for my son next year.
