skaterbabs
What's the best way to do this? The boys (grades 6 and 7) have never done a chronological history, so I feel it's important to give them at least a basis for it. I can accelerate them to finish SOTW 1 more quickly, but I'm not sure if the resources listed as outside reading will be in-depth enough for middle schoolers. I'm sure I can use it "out of the box" (so to speak) with DD (1st gr) since we're going to use the AG, so I guess the question is how to adapt it for the older kids. KIN
You might want to take a look at http://www.biblioplan.net. Biblioplan uses SOTW and gives more in depth resources as well for older students. It also gives age appropriate readers for grades K-8. I really enjoy it and plan to use Biblioplan all the way through high school.
lwilliams1922
I had a similar situation. I decided to go with it from dd 8th grade. It was her first year and while she tends to be advanced student she REALLY enjoyed the story format. She did need more work in outlining and summaries and using this book was a pleasant way to refine those skills. Next year we will move on to an advanced text but I am glad we began with SOTW. I did have to do some work to find reading sources though.
skaterbabs
KIN: thanks for the suggestion. DH really wants to avoid buying more curricula though - he's going into sticker shock :tongue_smilie: since DS #2 can't use most of what we bought for DS #1 and we have almost nothing for DS #1 DS #2 or DD for this coming year. LOL lwilliams1922: I think you have a good point about using it to teach outlining, note taking, etc for the boys... Neither one has ever done anything like that. Did you use the library for the supplimental reading or did you need to buy other books?
lwilliams1922
Most of the books I selected were in the library or the library was able to get them from another library for me. There were a few books I selected that were not avail in the library and I decided to buy.
