MountainViewMama
Hi, We are currently using SOS Math 3rd grade right now and I'm not sure I really love it. I am trying to prepare for 4th grade now. I am not good at math and I would like to find other math programs that would either be on the computer or maybe on DVD's that he watched. I know of Teaching Textbooks. Are there any others out there? Thanks so much!! :001_smile:
usetoschool
There are other programs on CD/DVD but they are mostly for older kids/pre-algebra and above. TT is the main one that I know of that goes down to elementary school and even their 4th grade program is brand new and won't be available until next month. Aleks is an online program that starts in 3rd grade but it does not have video lectures. It is more like an interactive personalized text book. Just for future reference the other video math programs that I know of are Chalkdust, Thinkwell, Math Relief, and The Teaching Company. There are good scripted math programs available but you will have to find somebody else for the answers to that or post a different thread because the only scripted one I have used is Saxon and their scripted lessons end after 3rd grade. Happy hunting. (which honestly seems to be half the fun of homeschooling :001_smile:)
LauraJ
I do Math-u-see for that very reason!! Not only does he teach me how to teach my children, he is also very entertaining. :)

Carmen_and_Company
Systematic Math--someone mentioned this program recently Lial's Basic Mathematics through calculus with DvT (digital video tutor) Also, you can acquire Chalk Dust DVDs cheaper by searching via ISBNs. Search Pongo's name for all the information on basic math through algebra II.
SW in IL
Some of the Saxon math programs have computer CDs that you can buy and use... the D.I.V.E. cds... And there's a set of DVDs that you can buy to go along with Saxon Math.... Trying to think of the name of them... Anyway, I'm sure someone else on the board knows what I'm talking about. I'm not sure what level the CDs and DVDs start at... I know they're not available for the lower grade levels, though. Also, look into the Critical Thinking Company software. There are a lot of great programs available through them. Revenge of the Math Spiders and Math Detective are two that come to mind. Hope this helps, Sue
