noah&emmasmommy
So, I've posted quite a few things about EG, and am considering a switch possibly to R&S next year. But SWB also recommends A Beka language in WTM. I would love to hear your thoughts about A Beka. I've always stayed away from A Beka, because it's just the obvious choice, and every one uses it, and I naturally want to swim upstream. Any thoughts would be welcome.:001_smile: Edited March 29, 2009 by noah&emmasmommy spelling
dhudson
I started with Abeka LA then tried ILL/PLL and came back to Abeka. I know Abeka can get a bad rap for over kill but I really like the layout, ease of use and I feel like the kids learn what they need to learn. I think Abeka is very throrough and my kids seem to like it. I do cross out about every other problem in the Language workbooks. I really like the layout of the Spelling. I used R&S spelling for my younger ones last year but came back to Abeka this year. In the older grades I really like how they teach the roots of words and that vocab and spelling words are intermingled. My kids have done well in Abeka and it's not horribly expensive as long as you stay away from the TM's. I will also admit (fearfully) that I like having one subject that has a workbook. It gives me a little time to work with my older son while my younger ones are doing their pages - after I introduce the topic, of course. Lovedtodeath
Well, Abeka doesn't cover writing adequately and R&S does, according to TWTM, so with Abeka, you need to supplement with a writing program.
dhudson
We do use Writing Strands in addition to Abeka. I think Abeka does a good job of teaching how to write a research report though.
