Mom 2 3
I am going to be in the car a lot next year. I am looking for curriculum we can watch on the DVD while driving. Is there anything out there for science and history on DVD? What kind of home school do you do when your in the car a lot?
SonshineLearner
Are you looking for Secular/Christian...or either? Moody Science are great! (Is that what they're called?) School House Rock is a favorite. We're listening to some Jim Weiss again....(history and fun) and Magic School Bus, depending on how old your children are... Oh Yeh...how old are your children? Girls/Boys...That'll get you more direct answers:-) Carrie
Melissa in CA
BJUP (Bob Jones University Press) has DVD courses in History and Science. I have not used their History, but I LOVE their Science. Drive thru America has some type of American History curriculum that goes with their Drive Thru DVD's. SOS (Switched on Schoolhouse) has computer based courses...but not DVDs that I am aware of. Hmmm...that's all I can recall off-hand
Dixie
We use BJUP's distance learning science also and we have used some of their history. DVD's are available for individual classes for 6th grade and up. Below 6th grade, they are only available with a complete grade package. kellycbr
Stock up on movies from Netflix to support your current curriculum.
scrapbabe
Well, it depends on the age of your kids, but here's some ideas. Drive Thru History - American and Ancient (it's available at homeschoolbuyersco-op right now until the end of next week). Bill Nye (from the Disney movie club) Moody Science Videos Liberty's Kids Magic School Bus My boys like Dogfights (History Channel) The Story of 1 (We LOVE this! - fun history of math dvd) Mathtacular (from Sonlight - they have a similar science one too) Flatland (newer version) Animated Heroes Classics (from livingscriptures) Cyberchase (PBS) HTH. Jen the RD
I know you asked about DVD's but, the SOTW CD's are wonderful. My kids have loved listening to them. Jim Weiss reads the SOTW text in a very engaging way. These have worked very well for us during those times when we were having to drive a lot. plimsoll
Schlessinger Media has a huge selection of science and history videos for many grade levels. There are the Sister Wendy videos about art and art history. There are a bunch of videos by The Standard Deviants about science, math and grammar.
