Mommy7
I just looked at a sample page or two. Do people use this for their entire grammar program? Do the workbooks provide practice with the skills learned? The first two levels look primarily oral. Is this correct? How long does it take to teach a day? I am just full of questions tonight. Thanks a bunch!
Dixie
I have used FLL 1 & 2 with my three boys and plan to use it with my girls. I feel that it has provided them with a good grammar foundation. I really like the fact that it is easy to pick up and use and doesn't require a lot of writing. FLL 3 wasn't available after I finished FLL 1 & 2 with my first child, so I went with Rod and Staff English and have been happy with it. Erica in OR
My first child used it as her only grammar program for 1st and 2nd grades. We've now moved over to Rod & Staff grade 3. My second child is now using FLL for 1st grade. Some lessons were quite brief and others a little bit longer. We do three lessons per week and tend to skip the enrichment exercises. The great majority of it is done orally, with some copywork. Erica in OR
Karen sn
I think it depends on what age the kid is. If you want to try and teach it to a younger kid - it's good. If you are like me and believe that you should introduce concepts to your kids when you only have to say it twice and they get it and you practice it a while - then no. I am a believer in schooling when they are able to get it in a few lessons. I am not ever going to spend time in a formal lesson teaching my kid our family name. I used it but started when my dd was 9 or 10. It's really geared for a 5yo. I ended up just going through it quickly and getting ideas on WHAT TO COVER for my dd. I hear HAKE Grammer is the bomb if you want to really get them ready for college......
ELaurie
I used FLL 3 with ds 9 this year and found it to be very thorough, with just the right amount of repetition to provide him with an excellent beginning foundation in grammar. The primary advantage to using FLL 1 & 2, IMO, is that by the time he reached FLL 3, he already had most of the definitions and all of the lists (pronouns, helping verbs, etc. ) memorized, which made for shorter lessons, and made it easier for him to focus on incorporating new skills such as diagramming sentences this year. FLL 3 is substantive, without being overwhelming, and I have been very pleased with it.
