CW Homer-which book do I start with in trying to figure this out??

I have all 3 books for Homer. I need to sit down and read through these. I'm not sure what to start reading first? The Core? The Teacher book? The student book?

Do you have any suggestions on how to specifically study these books? Do I read the WHOLE core? I'm confused and overwhelmed, but I want to figure it out!

You can certainly read the whole core, and it probably is ideal, but I found the best place to start was the student workbook.

I started through the workbook and read the core section as they were referenced. Once the picture starts to gel a little, the core book was easier to wrap my mind around.

It depends.

tend to need the BIG PICTURE first before I can sort out the trees. I started with the Core. I read the Introduction and then all the "days" (in bold print in the Table of Contents)

The I wnt to the appendix where there's a chart--photocopied it and started writing it out. For example, it says, under A & I Day 2 SL! Routine. So, I looked that up and it means dictation--so I wrote that in on the chart.

And so on.

Then I went back and read as much as I wanted--but now I had a roadmap. I knew how to prioritize the reading so we could get started.

hth.

I looked at the intros to each day too, and was pretty confused. I then looked at the student book and it made more sense. What I am doing now is going thru the core and making my own notes about each day and skill level. We just started Homer, but I've already read through skill level 3 for each day. Once I figured out that each day had its own set of skills that will be covered at a different pace, it made much more sense.

Well you have some good replies here, but I wanted to offer encouragement. I was a bit overwhelmed by the cores (Aesop and Homer) when I first picked each of them up. But if you give it 10-15 minutes, reading the core, and piecing together what each day looks like (either with the core or the student book) it will come into focus.

I actually didn't get the instructor's guides for either level, although I'm sure it would have made it more convenient. But I did get the student workbook and of course the core text. We are finishing up Homer this year and we're very happy with the program.

Blessings!

Thanks for your responses and encouragement. I really want to do this program. I just have to wade through the reading of it first!

I also wanted to add my thanks! I've been reading through and gleaning from any post regarding CW and it has been so helpful. I just received Aesop/Homer for Older Beginners and knowing where to start had me scratching my head. I've taken all the advice and it's starting to come together. Fortunately, since I'm planning on finishing out this year with IEW, I have until August to get a handle on it. :001_smile:

Hope you find your stride too, Karie!
