I am reading The Well Trained Mind. I guess you could say I am rereading. I love the idea of the book. I can see how to easily begin with my 3yo. I think it will be wonderful. I am having trouble trying to change over my 5th grader. She is 11. She is also a hands on person. We have been using lapbooks, and I can see where I can retain that part using WTM. I guess I am on info. overload. Our library is very very small. We would have to drive at least an hour or better for the library. (I am willing to do that) I think what I am asking is how do you start? Do you just jump in? Should I be worried about catching up on anything? Is there any advice you could throw my way? I forgot to tell you we have only been hsing for 1 yr. Thank you for listening to me ramble. I would appreciate any advice you might have.

I would start at the beginning of your next school year, unless you don't have much or anything left to wrap up from this grade. Take your time, plan out what you want to do. Figure out what books you want to use, and lay everything out in advance. Purchase the books you want but can't get from your library and start history with the Ancients, even if that is 6th grade instead of 5th. It's always best to begin at the beginning. :001_smile: You might try having her give you narrations/summaries, etc, so she will be in practice. Read lots of reviews and find something you think will work well with you and your child.

Thank you both so much for taking time to help me. I will take your advice and start at the beginning. If I am going do this, I want to do it right. I am taking Mrs. Bauer's advice and adding the Saxon math. Lots to think about and learn myself. I love the timeline idea, I can't wait to get started with that. There is just so much to think about, buy, and plan. Wish me luck!
