LNC
On our CLE 409 lightunit quiz today, they had a paragraph to circle the adverbs and underline the adjectives. I typed it out but I bold faced the adverbs. She didn't do well. Many of the sentences had objects/nouns, and so far she is only diagramming subjects & predicates with adjectives and adverbs for those. So, I'm wondering how to backtrack here. She really missed quite a few. Would your 4th graders be able to do this?? I think it will get worked out when she learns to diagram prepositional phrases and objects, but should I have her parse more sentences in the meantime? The Civil War had ended. Many black people wanted to go to school. Several schools were started. One of these was Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. But, the university soon used all it’s money. The teachers sadly decided that they would have to close the school. George White was a teacher at the university. He had a bright idea. The students were good singers. He took them on a singing trip to the northern states. The Jubilee Singers sang songs that slaves had sung for many years. They sang well. People listened closely. People like their singing. Soon, the singers had made thousands of dollars for their school. You can visit the university today. You can see a picture of the eleven singers who saved their school. mamaof2andtwins
My 4th graders are in CLE 300 and 200 LA, so we haven't hit adverbs yet. I have to tell you that even my 7th and 9th graders have trouble identifying adverbs but only occasionally now. At first it was VERY difficult. Tree House Academy
I put my older son in CLE LA 300 for this exact reason. They gave him some sentences to diagram in Writing Tales and he totally bombed! The ladies here recommended CLE after that. How long has your dd been doing CLE? She'll get it again and again over the years.
LNC
This is her first year, but my son has used it since the beginning. This was just covered in the 9th lightunit out of 10 for this year, so I think she'll get it in all 10 lightunits next year. So, she'll get better with more practice. I feel better now. Thanks!
