TOG Website? What am I doing wrong?

I may not be the brightest bulb in the box, but I am generally adept at navigating websites. I am, however, completely and totally bamfloozled by the Tapestry of Grace website.

I just want to know what history spines they use, but I have clicked, and clicked, and opened, and closed . . . and I am no closer to an answer than when I started this afternoon. I would like to get an idea of what books they schedule for Year 2, Units 3 and 4. One would not think such information would be impossibly challenging to find.

Am I doing something wrong, or is their website just . . . unfriendly? Or do they deliberately not publish their book lists (I could understand).

Thank you for starting this topic!

I located the Bookshelf site and utilized the search doohickey, but I was unable to tell if the booklist was complete.

I use Sonlight for preschool through Core 100, but we finish 100 in 8th grade. I only want to use TOG for the rhetoric level, all four years.

I wish they had a regular catalog. I'm not going to be able to do this unless I can nail down the total cost in advance.

I think the book list I found for year 1 rhetoric (for example) was only the main books. Surely there are more books needed? Maybe? If so, how do I find out which books I'll need?

Oooooookay. Yeah, the bookshelf thing sorta kinda gives me a vague idea.

Um, yeah, wow. For all the raving I hear over how well-designed and wonderful the curriculum is . . . if it's as confusing as the website, I'd have to say no thanks!

Thanks, now I know where to look, sort of. :tongue_smilie:

I would e-mail them and ask them for the year 2 mail in form, and specify you don't want to use it as an order form but just to be able to see the books used because you can't make sense of the bookshelf. They used to have the PDF up on the website now they don't. But that is the only way I can see it. The bookshelf just doesn't organize it in the way my brain makes sense of.

And if that doesn't work I might be able to pull a list together for you this weekend.

Here you go...Rhetoric books used for all four years with one caveat...Year 4 has NOT been redesigned (rewritten) yet so you are not going to get a complete list for Y4 until it is finished. http://www.bookshelfcentral.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=SRCHM&Search_and=1&HF=1&SearchAdd_3=1&Search_search=+Rhetoric&BrokSearch_sort=name|up

Also, The Bookshelf does not carry the Year Plans, just the books used IN the Year Plans. You purchase your Year Plans through the lampstand Press store: http://www.lampstandbookshelf.com/ZC/index.php click on the nice picture in the center that says "Buy tapestry." :D

The problem, I think, is that TOG doesn't have just one or two History "Spines." They use a variety of history books throughout the year. The best way to find History Spines is to go to the Bookshelf: http://www.bookshelfcentral.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Session_ID=eb0a98bcef4f75cd67f013ce7f7263e3&Screen=SFNT Then...

click the year plan,

click the unit you want books for

click the level

and then just click history

Most of the books listed as 5+ weeks would indeed be considered History Spines. Also, check the Years and Units they are used, which is listed immediately to the right of each book. Some books are used for several Year Plans and Units.

I know it appears confusing, but it's really not.

If you are using more than one level, or more than one unit, repeat above steps for each. You'll want to do the same for your Bible/Worldview "spines" as well.

The bookshelf is set up the way it is to help those who want to only purchase a unit at a time. So if you only want to do a unit of TOG, you have the list of what books will be needed in that unit. And the ability to get a list for only the level of books you are interested in for said Unit, instead of trying to weed through all four levels. A completely different mentality than say, Sonlight, who does not give you the option of using part of a Core.

Hths!

It also helps to mention that one of the TOG employees, (and the co-writer of Redesigned, Dana) has recently (within the last month) taken over the Bookshelf as her own company, re-named Bookshelf Central. So it is in a state of transition and there are likely wrinkles that will be ironed out. I'm sure it will be smoother down the road. :001_smile: All in all, she's done a great job of helping TOG users by continuing to offer all the books in one place.

Thanks for the help!

My daughter might be able to take a lit class that corresponds with some particular TOG units, so I just wanted to see if there were any good history spines we could use at home. I think I can figure it out now that I have some instructions. :)
