razorbackmama
We've always administered the ITBS since we can do it at home with our own kids. You just need your degree. Since I don't yet (working on it ;)), my dh has administered it. That's somewhat of a pain due to scheduling issues, but we get it done, and it's not too terribly bad. Well I just learned that anyone can administer the CAT. Hot diggity dog!!!!! But I know nothing about it. Is it considered to be as "good" as the Iowa? Do most states that require testing accept the CAT as well? It'd be so much more convenient if I could administer it instead of my dh!!! razorbackmama
So it depends on your purpose. If you just want to satisfy the school district, the CAT is fine. If you'd like more insight into your dc, go with the ITBS/CogAT. Hmmmmm. It's sort of a mix of both.:tongue_smilie:

rwalizer
We used the CAT last year for 7th grade and plan to use it again this year. Neither I nor dh have a degree and I don't feel like going through the trouble of trying to get up with someone who does. We spend a few months doing a test prep book and then we knock out the CAT in an afternoon. We live in Virginia, btw. I have seen what other kids ds's age are doing in ps and he is ahead of them in some areas and behind them in others, which is normal. (I don't sweat over the things he struggles with, we just spend more time on them.)
