klmama
I have a pile of books I want to sell, and I don't have the mental energy to mess with selling them online, waiting for buyers, packaging, mailing, etc. I do have the time to make multiple trips to Half-Priced books, however, as I pass right by it regularly. Would I get a better price for my books in several smaller drop-offs, or do you think I'd get more all at once? These are mostly parenting and health books, not curriculum. sarahli
My aunt tried to sell books there but they only gave 10% of the price max for her books, even if they were "like new". I find it easy to sell online- I've only sold on half.com but the process is very quick and you don't have to take pictures. Typically you will make a little profit on the shipping as well. kalanamak
I feel that I have been treated well no matter how many books I bring in. I could have gotten more if I sold online, but I really don't have the time or desire the hassle. I like getting a few bucks rather than just donating to Goodwill, etc, although I sometimes do that. I also like that they will donate anything they don't want to buy, so you don't then have to haul the rejects off. They also, at my store, let me go through the rejects, and I'll pull one now and then to give to a friend. I always spend it on more books :)
Aubrey
Fewer. And it varies depending on who accepts them. You can take a pile of 10 books they deem worthless, & they'll offer you $1. Otoh, if you bring ea of those books in individually, they're liable to offer you at least .25 ea, or $2.50 total. That's worst-case scenario, of course. After selling a few books, I think you can get a pretty good feel for what they'll buy & what they'll give you a quarter for your trouble for, kwim? I don't sell online. I don't go to the post office. I don't figure shipping. I sell at Half Price, or I give to a thrift store. That's it. I *might* do something like paperback swap if I were smart, but when I'm ready to get something out of the house, I'm not usually brilliant; I'm in a hurry. ;)
