Mommy22alyns
Who has done this or is doing it? What was your reasoning? What are your plans for the later history cycles? I think we're going to end up taking at least a year and a half to complete SOTW 1, and by the looks of SOTW 2, we might be on that one a while too! I'm enjoying doing a ton of extra reading and plenty of projects and I don't see any reason to rush through just to have things neatly fall within a year. (This is an internal struggle though! :001_huh:) This will also help my problem of arriving at modern history too early and it'll keep Sylvia folded in at a more appropriate pace. 4kiddies
I was just thinking about this earlier today. I plan on doing SOTW 1 with my ds6 and my dd5 in the fall. If I do it one a year then my youngest with start with SOTW 4 at 5 yo From what I hear, SOTW 4 is a little heavy for a K'er:glare:. I'm debating whether I want to stretch them out over more than 1 year or do it two years in a row with different supplemental books. I'm interested in hearing more opinions! Thanks! diaperjoys
My tentative plan is to take 2 years to cover SOTW vol. 1. The reason? I want to do the Veritas History Cards alongside SOTW. Not the worksheets, just the cards and lots of reading. Since SOTW 1 covers two years of Veritas history, and my oldest kiddos will be in 1st and K, I don't want to push the schedule too much. brehon
I think you just answered your own question. We've taken more than a year to finish SOTW Vol.1 as well. Just have fun and don't worry about an artificial time table. No need to rush when your kiddos are so young. Just let them enjoy history. As far as later on -- well, we'll see when we get there. I'm really not anticipating this being a problem. Have fun with all your projects and readings! Oh, and feel free (as if you need my permission :tongue_smilie:) to skip and/or consolidate chapters, too. Good Luck.
buddhabelly
I'm not sure which volume we took longer on....probably all of them. I would estimate 12 months for each one? Volume 3 probably took the longest, because we added in lots of extra U.S. History. Not really much that wasn't suggested in the activity guide of SOTW, but we read lots and lots of extra stuff about the constitution, declaration of independence, we watched PBS video series (from Netflix) about the American Revolution and also the war of 1812.
