HSKLNG
....Could I use this test to assess my dd's knowledge on any given subject? or Do I have to have her take the real test? Is not a matter of money, but availability where I am located right now. Perhaps, if I get out of here by next year and back to CONUS, then I will consider have her taking the test. Right now, I just want to help her see the big picture by taking these kind of tests and realize the amount of information she should know as a "basic"...I will too see if I need to turn the heat up. What do you think? Would I be wasting our time?

Well, AP tests will not test basic information, but college level information. They're not for the faint of heart. :001_smile: If your goal in administering the tests is to determine whether your child has mastered certain material, I think you'd be better served using tests provided by your specific curriculum provider. Keep in mind that many AP tests not only test college-level material, but *specific* college-level material. So, for example, all AP biology classes should cover 8 specific labs which are game for the AP exam. There are lots of biology experiments that would provide a thorough class; but the AP requires 8 specific labs. AP US Government covers specific criterion that may or may not be in *every* typical high school US government class. It would be very unusual for a student to take an AP exam without having studied specifically to that exam at some point. Perhaps CLEP tests might work, but I'm not at all familiar with them so I can't speak to that. I'm actually not quite sure I understand your question :001_smile: but HTH, Lisa
Laurie4b
I'm not sure what you're asking. You cannot administer either the CLEP or an AP test. Both are administered for students hoping to place out of college courses in the subject; in other words, both measure college-level ability. If you are looking for an achievement test for high school, the ACT would be the way to go. None of them are "practice" tests, but the ACT scores do not have to be reported to colleges, unless you ask for that specific score to be sent. JFSinIL
I'd check some SAT II subject test prep books, and an ACT prep book, from the library and (w/o marking the book!) use the practice tests in those books to test your kiddo.
