What kind of bottled water is the best?

Recommended Posts

I have been using the 3 gallon bottles for my water cooler....but I was thinking of getting the 8oz. (or whatever size they are) bottles for individual use. When I went to purchase them.....I wasn't sure what to get, LOL. I saw purified and spring. Why do they not have 'distilled' in the 8oz. bottles? Maybe distilled removes all the minerals and is not the best for drinking?

And....when the bottle said 'purified'.....it didn't say exactly HOW it was purified.....

The bottled water I usually get in the 3gal. size uses a reverse osmosis system.....would that be the best for drinking also? If so....why do they not sell those in the 8oz bottles?

Where we live, it is the Coke (Cristal) and Pepsi (Electropura) waters. Both are used for making their drinks so the water has to be good, otherwise the cans/bottles would explode. That's how we pick our drinking water. We buy our cooking water at the local water plant for over 1/2 the price of Cristal/Electropura.

I like Dasani and Deer Park water the best. I grew up on spring water, and Deer Park used to have a bottling plant nearby and my mom worked there for awhile. After the plant closed, they continued getting some of their water there, so I always check the bottles to see where the water came from. :001_smile: I can't stand the taste of distilled water, but I didn't think it was for drinking anyway. I tried it because my dh once bought it by accident.

We use either Dasani or Aquafina. I think that they both use reverse osmosis filtration. Aquafina claims on their bottle that they use a seven step that you can read about on their website. They both add minerals so that the water tastes better than distilled. I don't know that they have a 8 oz size. The only one like that is the Deer Park which I don't like as much.

I buy the 24 pack size when it is on sale for $3.99 or $4.99. It's cheaper and healthier than soda.

We also have a drinking water system at our kitchen sink that uses reverse osmosis.

According to Alton Brown (from Food Network) if it's not spring water, it's basically tap water. So, I always get spring water. Spring water has to put on the label where it's from, "purified" water doesn't.

I heard this somewhere, too. Could have been Alton, not sure. So, although my dh loves Dasani...we only buy Spring Water now. My favorite is Poland Springs...but I only buy it on sale. Next fave is Deer Park. Again, I only buy it on sale...no more than 3.99. Some brand of Spring Water is always on sale for 3.99 or less somewhere! I want to get a home filtration system b/c it is much more environmentally friendly, but I can't afford it right now. I know the cost evens out in the end...but I just don't have the money to put out. Biggest Loser recommends Brita and I don't think that is too expensive. I might check that out. My kids drink a TON of water, though, b/c of the convenience of the small bottles.
