Brenda in MA
Some friends of ours are taking a summer vacation to DC. Does anyone have suggestions for inexpensive hotel(s) down in the capital/Smithsonian area or in MD or VA near a Metro station? Jane in NC
Some friends of ours are taking a summer vacation to DC. Does anyone have suggestions for inexpensive hotel(s) down in the capital/Smithsonian area or in MD or VA near a Metro station? TIA, Brenda The Courtyard at the Dunn Loring Metro stop (Vienna, VA) often offers bargain rates, particularly if you have AAA. Here is their website. Mary in VA
They will have to go to VA or MD. But there are so many different options about where to go. Hundreds of chain hotels near Metro stops. Are they driving or flying in? f they are flying in, where to stay would probably be determined by which airport they are coming into, Dulles, National, or Baltimore Washington. If they are driving, what direction are they coming from? Mary
JFSinIL
Hotel Harrington. Excellent, cheap, close to stuff.
Melinda in VT
We stayed at the Hotel Harrington about 7 years ago and are returning next month. Nothing fancy (if you need recently remodeled, this is not for you), but they have large family rooms, reasonable prices, and are extremely convenient (we walked to the Mall). Amy loves Bud
Have they looked at Vacation Rental By Owner? They might be able to find a nice condo which would probably be less than a hotel and allow the to eat in a bit. Just a thought.
MomsintheGarden
Ditto the Hotel Harrington. Keep in mind, though, that it is very expensive to eat in DC. Gardenmom
mommylaw
I noticed that prices are drastically cheaper over the weekends, especially long weekends. Thus the timing of our trip. :) The prices on Hotels.com were around $100/night (Friday-Tuesday) then jumped to $250+/night (Tues.-Thurs.). Kathy in MD
Thanks so far for the responses -- very helpful!!! They will be driving down from New England. Any more suggestions??? Brenda If cheap prices are more important than decent weather, try the first 3 weeks of Aug. Congress trys to recess at that time and most people try get out of town. Hotels may be cheaper during the week and parking at the Metro stations may be more available, allowing them to stay out further. The trains would also be less jammed at rush hour. The last week may also be cheaper, but some, if not all of the school districts now start before Labor Day. Be forewarned that if they stay at the far ends of the Metro, it could take them an hour to reach the Mall or other sites. Plus the time to reach the Metro.
