Michelle T
Despite being 44, and with fine lines around mouth and eyes, I still have insanely oily, shiny skin, and a strong tendency to pimples. Sigh. I'm tired of going through so many of those oil-blotting sheets every day, and I'm embarrassed by the shine of my skin. I've used Bare Escentuals mineral make up, which covers great but makes me very shiny. I'm currently using a matte liquid foundation from Rimmel, which I like, but still get so oily within just an hour or two. I use a matte powder to set my foundation, makes no difference. And eye make up slides off and creases on my very oily lids. I wash with a foaming cleaner from Aveeno, and then apply either the benzoyl peroxide gel from Acne.org, or Healthy Skin wrinkles/pimples stuff from Neutrogena. I don't have much extra money for expensive make up or skin care. Recommendations for me? I'm embarrassed to even have a photo taken, the flash just bounces off my shine. hornblower
I'd gently steer you towards Paula's Choice. Some of the oil may be a reaction to the cleanser if it's a bit too harsh or has fragrance/ingredients which you're sensitive too. I'd start with the Paula's Choice cleanser and toner and a BHA gel. Then check out her foundation for oily skin: http://www.paulaschoice.com/product/best-face-forward-foundation-spf-15/Complexion And get a package of blotting papers. good luck
mom2a&z
I feel your pain. I'm 40 and my skin is much oilier than it ever was as a teenager. I use Bare Minerals foundation but it didn't help much until I started using Cosmedicine Medi-Matte Oil Control Lotion underneath the foundation. That made all the difference. It doesn't completely stop the shine but it does make it so I only have to blot my face once or twice a day. The lotion is pricey at $40, but I use it sparingly and it has lasted awhile. They even have a tinted lotion that I use when I don't want to put on foundation. Good luck.
Tammy
and I use the Maybelline bare minerals.....The name brand doesn't work as well....and gives me the 'shine' in about 3 hours time.
KIN
For skin care try the oil cleansing method. It has completely cured my oily skin! Here is more information about it: http://www.acne.org/messageboard/OIL-CLEANSING-METHOD-Hi-t141871.html. There are lots of other places that have information about it. I use 1/4 ratio of caster oil to olive oil. It's cheap, natural and works great!
kellycbr
I'm trying to figure this one out, too. Have you ever heard of Dr. Nicholas Perricone? I can't afford his skin care products, but he has written several books about skin care that you can get at the library, or on ebay. He has an anti-inflammatory diet list of foods that do wonders for your skin, as well as foods to avoid. The cornerstone of the anti-inflammatory diet is the careful regulation of blood sugar. And this also effects our hormones that wreak havock on our skin. The carbs I love so much are really contributing to my skin care issues. I've noticed huge improvements when I follow his recommendations. PBS has done fundraising specials with Dr. Perricone, and there are many articles about how dramatic his results have been. Let me know if you try this out. I love hearing good news!

Michelle T Michelle, I have this problem too and use the acne.org products. I am finding that using the whole regimen from them is helping. The most fascinating thing that they have come out with is the AHA product (alpha hydroxy acid). I use it at night, over the b. peroxide. It helps with everything, including oily skin and fine lines. The other thing is that I have to be diligent in following the regimen, without fail.
jedbel
Michelle, I also have oily acne prone skin and would always wash my face with a cleanser and then apply Benzoyl Peroxide. I thought that moisturizing my skin was a crazy thing to do. Why would I do that if I had enough oil on my face for a hundred people? :D I went to a derm. who explained that even if my skin did not feel dry, the cleanser and the benzoyl peroxide were drying my face and so my skin would produce more and more oil to make up for the oil that was missing. He recommended I use a gentler cleanser like Purpose bar of face soap (sold at most drug stores) and also to moisturize after putting the med. on my face with Cetaphill Moisturizer. I decided to try it and I am amazed at the difference! After years of suffering from extremely oily skin my face is now normal and no longer oily. Moisturizing after applying the acne med. to my skin (every single time) was the key for me. HTH.
Janet in Toronto
Here's a little tip from Paula Begoun: Milk of Magnesia!. (On your skin, not to ingest!) She also recommends loose powder rather than pressed.
Ellyndria
I don't have advice about the oily skin, but I do have advice about eyeshadow disappearing. You need to use a primer. My favorite, and a favorite among many... Urban Decay Primer Potion. It comes in a little purple bottle. This stuff is amazing.. my eyeshadow used to disappear, or slide into the crease, so I hardly ever wore it.. now my eyeshadow will last all day and stays put. It's fun to wear now.
