Ms. Riding Hood
After exactly one week of "no poo", using only baking soda and vinegar to wash her hair, we have almost achieved success! Yesterday we washed it and afterwards I carefully combed it out looking for any signs of flakes (previously a consistent problem) and I think I found one tiny flake!! Plus, her hair has looked great and seemed to last longer between washings. Now we're going into week two, and I continue to watch for changes and improvements, but the fact that her flakes are gone after only a week is enough to convince me that we're onto a good thing here! Just wanted to update and say thanks again for the tip!

I guess we need to try vinegar and baking soda. Cool Beans! Mandy
WTMindy
We have been having luck too, although my dd got very sick this week and has been basically bed ridden and so her hair is greasy now again just because she hasn't been showering regularly. But, we're going back to the baking soda remedy now that she is better.
AuntieM
All I can think of is... baking soda + vinegar.... KABOOM! Surely there's non-volcanic methodology involved... could one of you remind me of how it's done? Or paste a link to the original thread (I dunno how to do that)? DDnear12 may benefit from this remedy. Thanks!
AuntieM
I forgot about the original no-SHAMpoo thread, and when I saw your subject line my first thought was, my what a mighty little control freak she's got there!
Ms. Riding Hood
Yes, this is what my older ds said right away..."Hey if you are washing her hair with baking soda, why don't you add a little VINEGAR to the mix!" It was an uncharitable comment on his part. :001_smile: But the method is to mix baking soda with water (we've been using 2 Tbsp per cup), wash with that and rinse, and then follow that with a rinse of vinegar (same proportions as baking soda). So far no "kaboom" on dd's head. "No poo"--yes that would be a miraculous event but I'm not that much of a control freak! There used to be a comedienne who talked about "sham" poo. She wondered why we don't all use "real-poo", and leave the sham behind. Hey, maybe that's what I'm doing with the baking soda! No more sham-poo for me! AuntieM
Sham indeed... I am thinking that a few tablespoons of baking soda and vinegar are waaaaay cheaper than a bottle of shampoo, especially a specialty (dandruff) or high-end brand.
