Cathy in SoCal
I am working through the book right now and actually like the method. Just wanted to hear any success stories of how your kids really learned how to draw through DWC book. I realize this usually starts with more elementary school age, but I wanted to hear from those of you who have older children looking back as well as younger. My kids are older (14 & 11). harmonyartmom
My three sons are DWC graduates and they are all very accomplished artists in varying degrees and styles. I loved using it in conjunction with a more "how to" program like Mark Kistler's Draw Squad. We actually went through the lessons in the book more than once and the last time we went through we applied the lessons to our nature journal. It worked very well and I am pleased with the results. I think all my links for DWC are in my signature as well as my art blog if you want to see more about we actually used the book. On the left side bar of my art blog, I have a whole list of DWC posts. Julie in MN
My dd is very artsy & valued her experience with DWC very much. Her drawings were on our dining room wall for many years, and now I think she took them for her own apartment. She did DWC in high school. I think we did the teen one, which just basically adds a section on "unlearning" that you can't draw, as I recall. Julie

Colleen in NS
I am working through the book right now and actually like the method. Just wanted to hear any success stories of how your kids really learned how to draw through DWC book. I realize this usually starts with more elementary school age, but I wanted to hear from those of you who have older children looking back as well as younger. My kids are older (14 & 11). My kids are younger. We've been slowly working through DWC for about 3 years now (slowness due to me having to figure out how to draw first). We are on lesson 4, with shading. When I figured out the basic idea of the lesson, I taught them, and am having them work on shaded pictures whenever we sit down to draw. I have really enjoyed this book myself, and my kids have easily understood the concepts once I explained and demonstrated. I think they've turned out gorgeous pictures!! The sample of shading the lily project - all three of us did this, and we have three very different but beautifully contrasting pictures to frame and put on the wall. I always thought drawing was a talent for just a few, but I'm convinced now it's a skill that most people can learn by trying, thanks to this book.
