My son is bored with math...

My son is in 2nd grade and is using CLE(he's in 302 now). I started him in Right Start and this year switched to CLE where he has progressed very quickly. Each day a new concept is taught but it doesn't challenge him at all and complains of everything being too easy. He probably does less that half each lesson just because he has mastered it and I know he doesn't need the practice. He completes his speed drills in a minute or less without any mistakes.

Any suggestions? Do I make him do a couple of lessons a day-just the new concepts? Switch to a new math curriculum?

Thanks,

Julie

Did he take the placement test for CLE? I'm very thankful we decided to do the placement tests. They aren't that expensive and I feel good knowing we will be using the right level....not too hard, not too easy.

If you don't want to do the placement test, I like the idea from the pp about taking the tests until he starts to struggle with something. That's actually a wonderful idea, IMO.

Yes, definitely sounds like he's in the wrong level. I don't know if there are quizes in the 2nd level but if you do I would have him take those. If not maybe have him take the self tests and see if there are any concepts he has difficulty in and then go back to those in the Light units.
