Guest pinkmoxie
I would like to do a broad-brush summer of American history. Does anyone have any good ideas about a book or DVD approach (in combination or alone) to go with to get this done. Not a history of everything, just a summer on America for a nine-year-old who has been doing all world history (which seems to exclude Am history). He has very little concept of, say, that the American Revolution and WW II were not close together. Embarrassing but fixable.
WTMindy
A couple of summers ago we spent reading the Joy Hakim book set. We didn't do any formal curriculum, but we read through the series. My kids really enjoy me reading history books to them, so it was fun. The thing I like about the Hakim books is that they are engaging for students and they have cultural events other than just political. Donna A.
A Child's Story of America from Christian Liberty Press, and a good booklist. Lots of field trips.
