2 murder-suicides in less than week in my area

I live in a fairly sparsely populated area. In fact when events happen usually someone in dh's large extended family knows the people. Well, last week a man killed his girlfriend and then burned up the house with him and her in it while the woman's 5 dd's were at school (oldest is middle school age) and then this morning I go get the paper and a man walked into the vet clinic where his wife works and killed her and then himself leaving 4 dc (oldest is in high school). Like I said this is not a large city area or lots of population. Is there so much despair now. I do live in the county that is #1 in unemployment in NJ and the surrounding 2 counties are numbers 2 and 3. Does this have anything to do with these events? I am just shaken up and don't feel like calling anyone right now but need to talk about it so here I am.

There is not more despair. There are less coping skills.

 

I am so sorry for those children. Both those men and those women had other choices. I lived with domestic violence and I know it is a 2-way street. No one deserves to be hit and that is why you leave.

 

This woman called a radio show here and 1st said it took her 23 years to leave her abusive husband. Later in the call she said the husband left her for another woman. Well, which was it?

 

My mother was an RN. She made enough money to support herself. She left my dad over & over & over and always came back. She always left my brother and I with him, too. She'd disappear and we'd have no idea where she was or if she'd ever come back. She'd start calling in the middle of the night and once she did that, I knew she'd be home within a week or so.

 

I do not buy the idea that women CAN'T leave. If a man beats you when your with him or beats you when you leave him, I'd rather take my chances and leave. And I know this from personal experience. I was stupid enough to get invovled with a man just like my father after my parents died.

 

Jeannie, if I were you, I'd try to donate money to the children who lives were just destroyed. And pray. And raise strong children yourself.
