jacqui in mo
I posed a math question earlier today and represented the exponents with a ^ like this: 2x^3 ( 2x to the third power) Is there a way to type them so they appear like they do in the math books? ereks mom
Hold down the 'alt' key while typing the numbers '0178' and you get the exponent 2 -- for example, 3²=9 Hold down the Hold down the 'alt' key while typing the numbers '0179' and you get the exponent 3 -- for example, 2³=8. Beyond that, I don't know. ;)
jacqui in mo
Hmm. let's try this:tongue_smilie:. ......... Doesn't work on my computer. Does the exponent appear immediately after you type 0178 or do you have to press another key? I did hold down my "alt" key while typing the numbers and nothing appeared. Thanks for the try anyway. Anyone else?

Matryoshka
I just tried and it worked for me - you have to hold down the Alt key for all four numbers (on the keypad, not the numbers above the letters), then when you release the Alt key, the character should show up. I'll have to make a note of those Alt sequences - I know what the ones are for the foreign characters I use regularly, but past that it's typing random sequences and hoping to come upon the right one! Oh, for the Mac where you can easily find out where this stuff lives!

LMA
Are you using Word? When you are at a place for your exponent, choose the Format menu, Choose Font. Click on Superscript. Hit OK. Then type your exponent. Then go back to that same format menu and unclick the superscript option.
