Jen500
My son had a painless, swollen lump on his gum when his tooth was abcessed.
Donna
You will know if it abcesses. There will be a large swollen lump. My ds fell on his face when he was 2.5yo and injured a tooth (pushed it back and up into the gum). It turned greyish black almost immediately but didn't abcess until he was 5yo so it may not be an immediate thing.
amyable
Thirding the "lump" - the ped dentist said it might look like a little pearl. He said grey is normal - that teeth "bruise" just like skin, and that if the tooth OK otherwise it might return to normal color.
sixpence1978
My DD knocked one of her teeth loose a couple of months ago and it turned grey as well. The PP is right, it is like a bruising of the tooth. My DS had a tooth abcess. It was extremely painful and the tooth literally was part gone. There was just a really red, angry looking pit down into his tooth.
