Can anyone tell me the difference in the older version IG sonlights and the newer one

I purchased Sonlight about 10 years ago. The IG then included history and language arts within the same guide. Science would be purchased separately. Now you purchase history, science, and language arts all separately. And I'm sure they're much more comprehensive now. Language arts 10 years ago was nothing compared to what is provided now.

What specific questions did you have about them?

It depends on how old you mean. SL has gone through some major improvements over the years. I wouldn't buy any Instructor Guide that's from before 2000. That's when SL made major upgrades to all of the IGs. I don't remember which years SL changed Cores 1,2,6,7,100. They all went through major changes no more recently than three years ago, but definitely since 2000. Cores 1 and 2 became a two-year world history course and what used to be Core 2 was changed to Core 1+2 (a one-year world history course). Core 6 (world history) was split into two years and the spine was changed to SOTW when SWB finished all 4 volumes. The old Core 7 (American history) was renamed Core 100 and went through drastic changes at the same time.

This explains how their IG's have changed over the years: http://www.sonlight.com/ig-update-chart.html.

Personally, if I was in the market for a Core 6, history and lit, I'd look for one 2005 or later. They came out with the current line-up in 2004 for Core 6, and frankly I've avoided buying the first year of a major rewrite after tearing my hair out years ago with a Core K that was frankly a disaster (they ended up giving everyone who bought it a credit on their account). Core 4 from 2008 had quite a few corrections after it was printed, so I was glad that I had gone ahead and bought a 2005 used one last summer.

Science 6 was redone some in 2008, but keep in mind that last I heard, Sonlight is actually redoing all of their science programs for 2009. From 7th and up, they use Apologia.

I am not sure of the year, but in the older manuals it might say to "find xyz" on the map and you pretty much have to know yourself where it is or look it up yourself. Starting sometime a few years ago, they put small map pic in the corner of the pages showing where "xyz" is on the markable map in the guide. This might not be a big deal to some, but I need those little blips to show me where "xyz" is on the map. Maybe the link someone posted above tells the info on when they added the maps.
