Osmosis Mom Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 I am not naturally creative. Ds wants to do something hands-on with pirates. Any ideas on what we can tackle that's doable? Quote
Chris in VA Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 How about designing his own jolly roger pirate flag using the symbols they used? Quote
Osmosis Mom Posted March 7, 2009 Author Posted March 7, 2009 and I did ask him, but he seems to want to build something or make a model. He tried to make a ship out of clay??! Crazy medium, which showed! As I said, I am not naturally crafty, LOL!!! Quote
Alphabetika Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Designing and creating an imaginary treasure map? You could burn it around the edges and drip some red food coloring here and there to show that he didn't come by it without a struggle. Arrrr!:tongue_smilie: Quote
Chris in VA Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Ooo--I like that--you can use white paper and stain it with a strong tea solution, let it dry, then make the map with black ink. Adding the food coloring blood is a great idea! Quote

Alphabetika Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Would he consent to using a kit? http://www.amazon.com/Toysmith-49747-Pirate-Wooden-Model/dp/B000Y042W8 Or maybe Legos? (One Christmas, my dh gave my dd's a huge Lego kit out of which they could build the Flying Dutchman. It even came with stubby little Davy Jones, Jack Sparrow, etc to build out of Legos! Working cannons, the whole bit. My dh is a professional modelbuilder, so I suspect he got it as much for himself, but they had a great time with it!) athena1277 Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Thanks, Chris, for these ideas. Now, how would you all suggest we build a model of a pirate ship? Any takers? I grew up near New Orleans and we made mardi gras floats with shoe boxes every year (usually it had to be based on a book). I bet a shoe box would make a good base for a pirate ship. He could glue popsicle sticks to it to look like boards...a dowel rod for a mast...... Quote

Yes, Melissa, I can actually *see* how it would be made so I'll suggest that to him. Thanks! Quote
