Shasta Mom
sorry if I seem clueless - we're not familiar with SL, but love to read.....
Pongo
I would have to say SL 4:)
Tabrett
SL 3 would match up time-line wise with SOTW 3 and is suggested for grades 3-5. SL's cores 1-4 match up with SOTW 1-4. It just doesn't use SOTW as their spine. SL core 6 uses SOTW 1+2. SL core 7 uses SOTW 3+4 and is suggested for grades 7-9. If your child is an excellent reader, you could buy the first half of core 7 to use with SOTW 3. I would look at cores 3 and 7's books and see which level fit my child the best. Colleen
Do you want to purchase an entire Sonlight Core, including the Instructor's Guide? Or are you just looking for books that would tie in well with the time period and subject matter covered in SOTW 3?
Shasta Mom
Do you want to purchase an entire Sonlight Core, including the Instructor's Guide? Or are you just looking for books that would tie in well with the time period and subject matter covered in SOTW 3? I think I'm only looking for corresponding books - history and literature. We really like SOTW, and my son likes to read, but I've always admires the extensive reading lists of sonlight. Plus, we're 2 years off rotation, so some recommended books are a little young for him (although some are too advanced.....!)
DarlaS
http://homescool-ed.blogspot.com/2007/04/sonlight-books-arranged-by-well-trained.html You could probably pick from both gr 1-4 early modern and 5-8. I'd just read whatever looked good! A lot of them look good though. There is a portion of Core 2 that covers some of the same time period so worth a look. bodhi tree
We're doing SL Core 3 right now, and I've supplemented with the audio of SOTW 3 throughout. You could easily pull readers from Core 3 to go along with the American History portion of SOTW 3. Depending on your kids' reading levels, you could also look at Core 2 (which is intro to world history part 2 - SOTW 3 & 4) or Core 7 (same time period, higher grade level). Core 7 actually uses SOTW 3 & 4 as a spine. HTH!
