Garga
I hate doing crafts. I hate doing scrap books. I hate making homemade cards. I am cheap. With that said, I would like to preserve a few (few) mementos for my kids in some sort of scrapbook form. I know nothing about scrapbooks. Nothing. I saw one, once. So, for those of you who DO know about scrapbooks, what could I do to make a small, cheap, easy scrapbook without fancy stuff in in? The only idea I have is to tape my papers onto construction paper and staple the whole shebang together. (I know, I know. That's not a good idea, which is why I'm posting!) What other options are there? (And where do you go to get the stuff?) Thanks!
valkett
If you're really not into the crafty stuff.... Consider scanning the papers into your computer in a jpg format. Then go to a site like Snapfish and have a book made. If you have a Mac, you can use iPhoto and do the same thing. You'll have something that looks nice, will last a long time and will fit nicely on your bookshelf. Good Luck! val

If you don't have a scanner you could take a picture of whatever it is you want to put in your scrapbook and then upload it to one of those photo sites. Shutterfly, and winkflash have books as well. Michaels and JoAnn's sell Scrapbooking material. If you are really wanting to preserve these mementos, make sure you get products that are acid and lignin free so they don't turn your pictures yellow. If you go with using a scrapbook instead of order one online like mentioned above you can still take pictures of your mementos print them out and put them in your scrapbook. HTH! BMW
Something my friend did, who could list the same dislikes and situation as you did... She purchsed good quality 3 ring binders (like the 3 inch thick ringed ones). She purchased lots of clear plastic page protectors that she could slip in a normal sized paper into. She purchased colored paper that she liked, colors that she liked. She cropped pictures (that just means cutting them smaller, if desired, into circles or squares... one other friend who also did this method is to just cut shapes out of them freehand, nothing fancy, but she could fit a lot more pictures on a page if they were cropped). She used a simple photo glue stick or double sided photo tape and put them onto her pages. IF she got inspired by a theme, she added some stickers. Anyway, two friends did it this way. They got lots of pictures into "albums" and got the job done, didn't have to spend a lot of time cutting paper or planning great layouts and the children like their albums just like mine do. And theirs cost much less than mine did. So, if you don't want to do the scan and computer method, that's an idea.
Big Buckin' Longhorn
You can also buy a scrapbooking kit that has the pages already fixed into a book and the pages already have backgrounds etc . . . on them. They just leave little cut-outs for you to put your own pictures into them. Just crop the photo to fit into the slot and you can do a whole book in an hour or so. I've seen these at Hobby Lobby and the Creative Memories have lots of versions you could order. Just google them. They have a website. I couldn't keep up with "Scrapbooking Joneses" and gave up years ago. I thought every page had to be a work of art. It drove me nuts and I hated doing it. Two dear friends of mine scrapbook using the above "simple" method. Their books are cute and filled with wonderful memories for their kiddos to pour over. OH! And I should add - do not buy one of those scrapbooking "inspirational" books..the ones that give all kinds of "ideas". It'll kill any joy you may have. LOL Just slap some sort of "wallpaper" on each page, glue the pics on, make a few notes ("Thanksgiving 2004 at Grandma's home" etc.) and when you feel really daring, use some stickers or embellishments. :D Enjoy! Sebastian (a lady)
What about getting a photo album with sleeves for photos. There are lots of all different prices and most are pretty photo safe. Put photos into all but one or two of the sleeves. Then slip in a piece of cardstock with your story about those pictures. It could be as simple as the place, date and who is in the photos. It could be more elaborate. I've seen some photo albums that are 2-3 photos per page. Then there are some that seem to have more like 6-9. Pick what works for you. But this way, you will concentrate on the photo and the story that goes with it rather than all the adornments.
