Jeanne in MN
We are finishing up WWI and going into the Roaring 20s. I think the music that came out during that time and the next 2 decades would be wonderful to listen to and add to our studies! Would there be any cd and/or music collections cds of these years that would be worth buying? I've searched Amazon and have a few ideas, but wondering if there's anything out there as a set. Cost is a concern too. Just wondering if anyone had any great ideas or names of cds I might have missed. Thanks! Jeanne

I love Woody Allen's movie music collections. The pieces are nearly all chosen from this era and are an evocative, eclectic mix. The mix I have is out of print but you could buy it second-hand or buy this collection which looks similar. Consider also the music of Charlie Chaplin. Chaplin himself composed his music. The music has been orchestrated recently by the composer and conductor Carl Davis (who also wrote the music for the BBC's 'Pride and Prejudice'). I love the sound tracks of 'The Circus', 'The Gold Rush', 'The Kid' and the song 'Smile' has to be one of his greatest classics.
Dobela
Several years ago I had a Time Life set of CDs with music from the 20s to about 1950. I have since given it to my MIL and can't remember the exact name. It had lots of popular music from each time frame in all areas - country, jazz, pop etc. I would highly recommend it, if you can find it. kalanamak
No, but if you look around at the KUOW website, you can get The Swing Years And Beyond via the web. It is on Sat nights from 6-11 or 12. Popular music from 1929-1959 and a little bit of intro into it. Nice show. MamaT
I agree with the other posters, but would add Louis Armstrong. You might also check out this site: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/music_directory/1920s_jazz_age.php
