runningirl71
with the How ____________Works books, care to share any cool experiment kits you may have used to enhance your studies? Due to finances, I'm going the WTM route as it is economical. I was able to get all core books for a steal, and would like to find some neat experiment kits to go with our studies. Would love any ideas!
mcconnellboys
I really, really like the Science in a Nutshell kits, but they aren't cheap. On the plus side, they can be used with up to three kids or used with a couple of kids and then still sold with ample product for at least one more child to use. I haven't ever looked online to see if there are any used kits there for sale. Over the years, I've searched for cheap science kits on sale at discount bookstores, and places such as Tuesday Morning, T.J. Maxx, Marshall's (kids' departments), etc. I've found a ton of great, cheap stuff. I've also bought some small kits and model kits through Scholastic book circulars. Sometimes, even some place like Barnes and Noble will have some kits on sale at a good price. Our library also has plenty of the Van Cleave books available for all science topics. I've used the experiments from a lot of these, putting together my own supply kit ahead of time.

I am planning on sitting down the dd and going through the books, picking out what topics interest her ahead of time. I did get a VanCleave Biology book as a core book too. I know I'll have to put together some stuff, but I was thinking buying a couple fun already-to- go kits would be fun for dd as well.
mcconnellboys
I looked at Amazon today, but only found Thames and Kosmos kits there, some of which are very expensive. I have heard good things about them, though!
