Julie in MO
I was just perusing the Rainbow Resource catalog and found this book, which says it replaces SOTW Vol. 1, written for older students (7-ad). Has anyone seen this? Can you tell me a bit more? Blessings, Julie
Chris in VA
I've read the first few chapters, and I really, really liked it. I would use it as a high school text alongside something like Spielvogel. It's very narrative and easy to follow (for an adult--I don't know about a 7th grader), and it's on my wish list for myself. I actually bought it for my dad for Christmas.
Heather in VA
Chris, I'm wondering why you'd want to use it next to something like Spielvogel. I've read the first part and was planning to use it as a history text along with a Great Books study. Do you think it's insufficient for a 9th grade history text? Like I said, I've read some of it but I'm not a history expert and usually my measure of a good history book is that I'm not in a coma when I'm done :-). Thanks Heather
Avila
I really like this book, and history is my thing. But it is (at least right now) just a book, with no activity guide, tests, etc. That doesn't bother me, but I know that some people are looking for that. And unless you have a truly exceptional 7th grader, I think it would be best for the high school years. Just another aside, I am not a huge fan of SOTW, but I love this one, and I am hoping she gets the whole series finished in time for me to use it for high school. bettyandbob
I have it. I've read quite a bit, but have not finished. It's good. I could see using it as a high school text. I don't think it would work for your average 7th grader.
