apCrazy4Jesus
I'm planning on doing Sonlight Core 4 2009-10 but I keep hearing the Landmark spine is dry and boreing. Any suggestions on what you would replace it with? Has anyone done this? How easy is it to do with their IG? What does WP use for American Story 2? Pongo
WP is using The American Story: 100 True Tales of American History , looks good. Basically whatever chapter the SL guide has listed , look at the TOC and then replace it with the other book. I plan on doing this in SL3:)
ssexton
We liked the DK Children's Encyclopedia of American History.
songbirdie
I don't have any suggestions for what to replace it with, but I can tell you we tried to use it this year and it really is totally dry. The author seems to also be obsessed with "luck" and "lucky". . .he uses those words on nearly every page. Our family tends to believe that history has come to us not out of luck, but Providence. So I'd FULLY recommend that you take advantage of one of the options the others have mentioned in this thread.:iagree:
tiffany k
I don't know how well The American Story would work as a spine. It is a compilation of well-known and lesser-known stories, short and independent of each other, arranged chronologically. It is really more of a compliment than a spine. I am planning to use it alongside of SOTW 3 and it will work nicely in that way, but I wouldn't want it to be our history spine. SL 4 comes with Story of the USA, so maybe that will be adequate and you can add in some library resources to flesh it out. Although that might not be necessary since SL 4 is already quite full! Heather in VA
Well don't give up on Landmark before you even try it. I like it. Amazingly my middle, history-hating dd liked it too. If you decide not to use it you still have the Story of the USA books. Heather
PeterPan
Like Heather said, the Story of the USA books are quite good for the 2nd half of american.
Mandy
We must be strange here. We like the Landmark book. We read it as an extra reading even though we aren't using Sonlight this year. Mandy
