phathui5
In addition to homeschooling my own kids, I'm also tutoring a 1st grader and I have an initial appointment with a 4th grader for this Saturday. Does anyone have suggestions for resources for when you only have a child 2-3 times a week? They both need to work on math and reading. Chris in VA
I would give them assignments to work on at home. Phonics Pathways is easy to do three days a week, if they can practice the other 2 or 3 days. Maybe some take home games to practice concepts you teach (you'd make the games). ElizabethB
2 reading tutoring threads. Tutoring for $: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76388 Tutoring as a volunteer: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76393 I generally have them watch my lessons on days they don't see me, I also send my phonics concentration game home and teach parents and older siblings how to play it with them. http://www.thephonicspage.org/On%20Phonics/concentrationgam.html Things that are easy to work through on their own with simple instructions are Blend Phonics, the Blend Phonics Reader, and the Hegge-Kirk-Kirk remedial reading drills (Don Potter's website, http://www.donpotter.net/education_pages/) This one has mp3 files, an older student could work through it on their own without parental help. A 1st or 2nd grader would probably need a bit of help/prodding. http://www.donpotter.net/education_pages/through_the_phonics_barrier.html
