amyinva
I want to pick a book or two for my kids to read and/or for us to read aloud for each of these two topics. They are 3rd grade and 1st grade, but easily reading at the 5th and 3rd grade level, respectively. Any suggestions? Thank you, Amy
Kfamily
My dd really enjoyed Viking Tales which you can find at this site: http://www.yesterdaysclassics.com You can find it under the History category. This is one of my favorite places to buy books. I think they have something for King Arthur as well....maybe under legends. HTH
momofabcd
I second Viking Tales! I also recommend King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table Retold by Emma Gelders Sterne. It is out of print, but can be found on Amazon. Do a search for Emma Gelders Stern. It says it's a little golden book, but by no means little (like the little golden books) it's an 8 1/2 x 11 hardcover with 140 pages. I bought it over a year ago because it was recommended by TOG at that time. My children very much enjoyed both of the above mentioned. Tiffani
My 2nd ds just finished Sword in the Tree. I don't have it in front of me so I can't give you the author, sorry.
Shasta Mom
for king arthur, I found a few books by Hudson Talbott that have great writing, and GREAT graphics. They are a large format and my son was immediately drawn into the pictures. He's a strong almost 10 yo reader, and enjoyed reading them himself. Talbott broke the books up into different arthurian stories...... I also really like The Legend of KA retold by Robin Lister and illustrated by Alan Baker. It's large format, too, but has more text and smaller pictures. fyi - we decided to hold off on Pyle and Sutcliff till later - even though we've really enjoyed shorter books by both authors. Their KA's are simply too long - we just don't have time.....

woolybear
I was going to say Viking Tales too. A big hit here with both ds, ages 6 and 8.
