Tera
Would those of you who use Truthquest please breakdown exactly how you use it? Do you read to your children out loud the summaries and then have them do the readings? What do you do after they read? Narrations? How about for high schoolers? THANKS for all your help. It is greatly appreciated.
jelbe5
When we used the American History for Young Students series we did everything pretty much together. I read the commentary and a read-aloud. My favorite memory was reading "Amos Fortune, Free Man". What a fantastic book! My older daughter got the most out of the commentary and the reading, but everyone joined in and it was a warm, memorable way to do history together. I also had my older dd read some books on her own, but the main way we used the guide was together, with me doing the reading of the commentary, some discussion, and a great read aloud. I am planning history for rising 9th grader. I am thinking of having her read the commentary herself along with a spine and selected literature. She will probably write narrations or perhaps I may use IEW resources for the time period studied. I know when I read through the commentary alone in the guide it helps to serve as a "Worldview" which ties together the history.
LNC
We are using AHYS 1. I read the commentary and the spine. I have picture books galore and a chapter book read aloud going all the time. The children have many books to read for each topic. I plan by quarters what I want to read and divide up the book. We notebook with coloring book pages, book reports, and copywork. We make History Pockets, by Evan Moor. I use a Child's Story of America as a spine even though it isn't in TQ. I have the tests to go with it - they are helpful. We have read so many wonderful books this year, bc there are a wealth of books for Amer. history for young readers. Michelle My Bell
I posted on my blog how we are doing history right now. I plan to use TruthQuest as a booklist. I will probably read aloud the commentary and then we will dive into our history. You can click on my blog below to see. Michelle
Narrow Gate Academy
I read aloud the summaries and one or two selections each week. Most of the time these are narrated back to me one at a time. Most weeks the girls also have one or two books that they are assigned to read and narrate to me. We usually have a basket of related books that are available to read if they are interested. On Friday, we do any booklets for our lapbook, mapwork, or timeline figures that are related. Michelle puts a lot of effort into the book lists. I'm not sure that it wouldn't be a copyright infringement to list this online. Would you consider deleting the list? Maybe you didn't get the list from Truthquest, but it kind of seems like it. Again, I'm not trying to be ugly, just figured you probably didn't think about it that way. LNC
Julie, That is what we've read so far this year. Some are recommended in the guide, some from the Veritas catalog, & some from the library search engine. It's certainly not a list taken from the TQ book. She has hundreds and hundreds of books to choose from. I deleted it though, since it offended you. Edited February 11, 2009 by LNC

I just figured you hadn't thought about the impact that might have. I know I do things without thinking sometimes. I apologize!!
