Guinea pig owners,

Recommended Posts

We don't currently have any piggies, but when we did we never brushed them. We gave only a couple of baths when a male we were given needed them for his sore feet. They enjoyed cardboard tubes, like the ones carpet is rolled around, cut into chunks scattered around the room, but we never had toys in their cage. I used to set the cage out in the shade without the bottom tray and let them nibble grass. You have to stay nearby or the sun will move and overheat them. When I was growing up in southern California we let our Guinea Pig loose in the backyard while we swam in the pool. She would actually play with the dog and little, whistle, and come to say, "hello" at the edge of the pool. Buckles was an amazing little critter.

What type of brush do you use to comb them? I've been using a baby brush but I don't think it works very well.

Also what are your piggies favorite "toys"? We've had our two guineas for 4 years now and my boys think they need a "cage makeover".

Comb them? I did not know we were supposed to comb them too. :o

The only toys ours get are whole carrots to chew on daily.

We bought a brush at the store that I think was actually meant for a cat. It works great for the piggies, though. It's small and the bristles have little rubber tips on them.

My daughter's ECE teacher used a little baby brush on the class piggie. It worked pretty well, too.

Ours don't really have toys. They have each other, and that's all they really want.

We comb our GP's because they seem to enjoy it. We use a regular black comb (like the ones you get for free at a hotel or really cheap at the dime store).

Our GP's love their bendy long tunnels. They are made of real wood and are held together with wire driven through the logs. We can bend them into different shapes. They climb climb on top, race through them, and sleep under them.

They also like the tunnels made of edible card board - we have to replace them every 6 mo. or so.

They also enjoy it when we put an old dish towel in their cage for them to burrow in.
