Christy B
Okay, I just posted asking about information on a World Geography/Cultures program for 9th, but I thought of something else -- I really want to use Notgrass World History. Could I split the program into two years, and add geography/world cultures/comparative religion to each year? Enough to give a half credit for geography each year? And then, since it would be at a slower pace, maybe add a Teaching Company series for each year? *That* would make it line up perfectly with the two year history program I want to use for my middle schooler, which would be a huge bonus. Plus, I wouldn't have to wait a year to use Notgrass. :-) I don't think I would have a hard time awarding a full credit each year for history for the Notgrass, even if we split it, if I add in DVDs, etc. IMO, the Notgrass covers at least twice the material at a much higher level than our local public textbooks. Sharon in MD
:hurray: I think you've come up with a great option. That way you get to spend more time on it and you could tally it on the transcript in what ever way you think would work best. We used Notgrass for US and added the TTC lectures on US History, 2nd Ed. We didn't use the Lit component because DS was already taking a lit course through an oversight academy. It made a great combination. Just one thing....many colleges do want to see at least one dedicated US history credit, so make sure you check and don't skip that if it is required someplace you think they might want to go. I'm thinking this really makes sense for us. I almost felt like I was looking for a "filler" to use until we could get to the World History; this way, we can go ahead and start. I just love, love, love the way Notgrass is laid out; from what I can tell of the samples on line it looks like it will be a great fit for the way dd learns. It seems a shame not to use the lit; I might supplement with Literary Lessons from Lord of the Rings (which I planned to use for 9th grade); or, I might look at using LLfLotR for 9th and then using one of the Hewitt programs for 10th. I do plan to use Notgrass American for 11th grade, using the program "as is" for that year, so that will be our American history credit. Alphabetika
I tihnk this is a great idea, and one I've contemplated using with my dd, who is now using Notgrass American for 9th grade. We have done basically NO geography and I'm really beginning to realize what a gap that is.
