What ages or grades do you use this up to?

I have used this before and was debating whether to do it again.

I will be using Illuminations with all grades 7th, 4th, 3rd, K and Pre-K and was thinking of adding this for fun.

I can't remember how much time it takes to plan.

Some people use FIAR up to age 9 or 10 with modification. Especially the vol. 4 books. FIAR is for ages 4-8, Beyond is for 8-12 and Above and Beyond is 12 and up. When I am doing FIAR with my little one, even my 12yo will listen in on the story. ;) He remembers doing the books when he was "little" too. I love FIAR.

Oh planning. Well, I go to homeschool share and print off anything I want to go with it. Then I make notes in the margins of my manuals for "lesson planning". I also check for supplemental books at the library, and type out the copywork passage from the story on startwrite. All in all I spend about 20-30 minutes a week "planning" for FIAR.

I'm using FIAR with my 8yo. We usually do one book every two weeks. That gives us plenty of time to hit all the stuff I want to do and spend time on the things that she finds interesting. Doing the same book for two weeks also allows us to spend less time each day (if needed). I guess it takes me about 45 min to plan out what we are doing and we spend about 30-45 minutes each day. I don't read the book every day for 2 weeks unless dd wants me to. We do try to read it the 5x though.

We are planning to use FIAR for K-2nd, and either volume 4 for 3rd, Beyond or a mix of the two for 3rd.

It takes virtually no time to plan, the Friday before, I look at the next book I want to read, get it out and mark the lessons I want to cover for the week. It takes about 5 minutes, 10 if I have to gather supplies for an activity.
