The eclipse -- I took photos, too.

Oh, thank you for posting these! They are really beautiful. The moon is big and bright now, but we were socked in with storm clouds during most of the show. We only caught a few glimpses. Rain in the desert for the Superbowl and the one night we get a total lunar eclipse. Last fall/winter we went 150 days without rain. What a weird year.

I used a telephoto lens and a tripod. I just got this camera earlier this year, and since I'm still learning how to use it, I wasn't expecting to have this much luck.

Jean, I can only imagine how cold it was in Wisconsin. I'm in PA, and it was freezing. I kept going back inside for tea and blankets, and then going back out to the yard to try more shots.

I also got lucky with the clear skies. All evening long, the news kept saying it would be too cloudy to see the eclipse, but every time I went out there, it was super clear skies. Go figure. :)

I have a love of astronomy, and when I heard you say you had wished you could get your telescope out, I just about started drooling. Telephotography! You rock!

Well, off to the library today.

I have the Canon Rebel XTi (purchased a few weeks ago), but I'm still saving for the telephoto lens. The photos on my blog are taken with the 18/55mm lens that came with the camera--it is nice to know what a difference the telephoto lens can make.

What lens do you have? I'm researching them, and I'm trying to decide how much I need to spend to get a decent one...

I purchased my telescope a couple of years ago. I've only "played" with astrophotography. Now that I have a good camera, I'll have to work on getting the camera attached and getting the photos taken--my little point-and-shoot took dismal photos with the telescope!

I have a lot to learn. But it is a hobby, which means I can take a lot of time and enjoy the journey :-).

Are they SOOC, or have you done some editing? If you've edited, can you tell me what you've done? I haven't had time to mess around much with my shots yet, and I'd love to have a good starting point.

Thank you! Those 2 photos are SOOC, just resized! I am going to play around with Photoshop to see if there's a way to *crisp* up some of the other photos that turned out just a little blurry. Not quite sure how to do that yet...LOL I'm not going to mess with the color at all.

This was our first time using that zoom lens--the 75-300 like yours, I think--and my dh took most of the pics. So I probably don't have any solid advice yet. :p We sure had fun, though! Now, I just need to figure out if I can hook up the Rebel to my Celestron telescope...
