Sew happily ever after
For the older levels (third and fourth)...how would the text help you? Is it worth it to get the text for guidance? Are the weekly lessons, dictations, narrations and such spelled out for you or is that in the student books?

I can't recall if the workbooks for 3 and 4 are complete yet. I use level 2 with my 9 yo and sold my 'textbook'. No need for it. K
abbeyej
The textbook details the "whys" and gives you scripted lessons for about 6-8 weeks of each of the four levels, along with instructions for selecting your own material for the rest of the year. (For instance, week 1 - scripted, week 2-6 - follow this pattern and work on these things, week 7 - scripted...) I *only* use the textbook. You can do this as a way to work quickly through the levels with a child who doesn't need a whole year at a certain level, just a refresher... Or you can use it as recommended, and simply select your own material for some weeks...
