annabanana1992
I have been asked by a friend to tutor her daughter in Algebra I. This is a wierd situation in which she has already taken Geometry, Alg II, and is taking Chicago Math's Functions, Statisitcs and Trig now. (She is in a private school.) She never actually passed Algebra I and has skimmed by in the other classes. She needs to get the F off the transcript and get better prepared for the SAT. I am familiar with Jacob's and Foerster, but we sort of just need to "get her through," ( i.e. we need to be expedient at the cost of more lofty educational goals) so I feel they are overkill. She is not math oriented at all. Soooo.. what would you suggest that I try with her? Thanks!
Sunshine State Sue
I'm no expert (are you trying the high school board as well?) but Lial's was created as a remedial Algebra program. It gets high marks for its clear presentation.
DeeDeeMarie0
Teaching Textbook really teaches as a slower and more understandable pace. You could introduce lesson and then she listens to it on computer. We have used Singapore all along, which was sometimes challenging, but TT seems to be a very easy approach to Algebra. I second the vote for TT.
Karen in CO
My ds used it to review Alg I and II before he took his college math placement test since he hadn't had any math in over a year. He liked it and said it did a great job of explaining the math.
