JennifersLost
Dh is supposed to be blogging with me, but he's just not getting around to it. We had planned to do a joint blog about our downsizing adventures, but we talked yesterday and he says realistically I should keep writing and he should just chime in from time to time. So....I'd like to get the ball rolling. Dh is a very practical guy when it comes to money questions and "what do we do now?" questions. He is not a financial expert - not a professional at all. He's just a practical, level-headed guy who really thinks through problems and long-term repercussions. My idea is to lure him onto the blog with a couple of questions to answer - sort of "advice column" style. They could be about money, buying/selling/flipping houses, renovations, practically anything! Anyone got a "real life" question that needs answering? Any predicaments? Anyone, anyone...Bueller? Thanks, people!
newbie
Yeah, what do you do when you buy a house, when the market is high and it drops about 300k w/in 6 mos. How long do we have to hold on to it, to ever make that money back?
Happy
Some brainstorming type thoughts.... How about some general advice on how to cope with a job loss. What do you look for in a bargain house you may be looking at? Trouble signs, etc. Small ways to make or supplement an income? Ways to update or fix up your house if you are trying to sell? JennifersLost
Thanks to you both for speaking up! Newbie, that's exactly the type of question I'm looking for. Would you be willing to volunteer a few specifics like: 1. ballpark price you bought it for. 2. ballpark location (don't get too specific if it freaks you out) 3. the price similar homes are going for. 4. can you make your payment comfortably or are you stretching to make it? Thanks! Feel free to PM me. Happy, I like your idea of talking about bargain house "trouble signs". There's a house for sale locally we looked at and he could write about why we didn't bite. Keep them coming, if anyone else has a question!
Shenan
How many years longer will we have to work to recoup our 401k losses this year? We've lost over half of our 401K savings this year. Also, should we have cut our losses and pulled the money out or should we continue to do what all the experts keep saying... Keep your money in the stocks. And how do you get rid of that sick stomach feeling that lasts for week every time we get our 401K statement in the mail?
