Does this history guide exist?

I'm looking for a guide for history and here is what I need:

1. Either covers all of history or if not too pricey (say $15-25) then several smaller guides if, for example, they are broken into major time periods of history such as ancients, middle ages, etc.

2.One that includes questions that require some thinking or that I could use as essay questions such as, comparisons, cause and effect, etc.

3.One that makes reference or brings into the questions primary source documents

4.I don't want one that require a lot of books that were prechosen to be read before being able to complete the work. I guess I want questions general enough that I can use any books I want and still use the questions. I don't want a history curriculum. Primary source documents and recommended readings would be fine.

We are going to have sooo much going on with everything else we are doing that I want to keep history simple, clean but deep.

Does this guide(s) exist? I would really appreciate any guidance.

We will be using CW literaure list and this includes the Histories by Herodotus, Plutarch's Live, Ben Franklin's Autobiography, Ecc. History of the English People (Bede), History of the Pelopennesian War (Thucydide), etc. so we will read some books that might be included in history but I will probably need a separate guide for most of these.

Thank you!

I'd be interested in hearing replies to this, too.

Have you looked at Biblioplan?

Truthquest?

Here's an idea completely off the wall: call up your local university and ask for the history department. See if there are any copies of quizzes, mid-terms and final exams from first year survey courses you can have or purchase.

I've looked at both. Biblioplan requires books and from the samples I only saw one writing question for each level but not other questions. Truthquest had only book recommendations in their samples so I couldn't tell if they had any questions either. I also looked at History Odyssey and liked this one more but they too require books to go along with their series. I liked a lot of their book choices and liked that it included map work. I will look at this a little more.

Thank you Alana! If I find anything that doesn't show up here I'll be sure to share. I did find a couple of things from Google books but I haven't looked at them closely yet. I really wanted to find something modern and all put together but we'll see....:D

I forgot I owned Guide to History Plus so I dug that out of the cabinet and looked through it. There are some things in there I can use. Thank you for reminding me about it.

Carmen, thank you for the link. I think this will help too.

But, I still wish I could find something closer to what I need...
