springmama
Looking over the Saxon Math 1 books, I am realizing my dd already can do most, if not all of workbook 1. I think we'll start next week and change the days of the months and seasons in the meeting book to suit our needs. Is there some reason that wouldn't work? I know it sounds like a dumb question, but you have no idea how many times something seemed obvious to me, only to find out there was some crucial bit of info that I just hadn't realized before my planning. So, is there something magical about the meeting book that I don't know?
usetoschool
No reason not to change them. We did. We never start on the regular school calendar, which is what the meeting books are geared to. They are just a tool to help learn counting, counting on, and calendars.
TheCoffeeChick
There is definitely no reason you would run into any trouble not starting in September. We started early (about 3 months) and you are right, the only thing needing adjustment is the lessons on seasons. I just skip them, which is not a big deal because we are covering seasons with our weather unit in science. (BTW, Fall is Lesson 17, Winter is Lesson 65, Spring is Lesson 115, and Summer is Lesson 129.) Also in the front of the book, it gives you patterns for the calendar for each month. Instead of September having the first pattern, you would use the first pattern during your first month of school. They get harder as the months go by, so it would be best to do them in order, rather than matching up which month it really is. Oh and I don't actually have the "meeting book", so I'm not sure if there is anything else in there that you would need to change. I just figured for the money, I could make what I needed. :)
Philothea
I always do that with the meeting book. We also have a non-standard school year.
