Any Alaskans out there....question for you....

Recommended Posts

My daughter really likes Balto and everything country, wild, snow, mountains, etc. She has the movie of Balto (animated version) which is cute.

She has asked for about 3 years for a musher's hat like Rosie's when she was a little girl...if you've seen the movie and know the story, etc.

I've searched online, but to no convenient avail so to speak.

Do any of you live near Nome? Close to it? Do you know of sporting goods stores or specialty iditarod stores that sell the musher's caps, that you could recommend to me....sending phone number.

I'm trying to find an authentic store that sells these and not a Walmart, etc. We shop Walmart and chain stores, but for this I'd like the personalized store as this will be a gift to her.

I will keep this up towards the front for a while to hopefully recruit some replies.

Thanks. Sheryl <><

Nome is a tiny village and does not really have stores like you speak of. Only native made goods that are very expensive. Most of the mushers do get their items from popular chain stores, so I don't know how personalized you want it to be..not sure if exactly what you want is available.

You could try here.

http://www.prospectoroutfitters.com/locations.htm This is in Fairbanks AK.

Or try

Or

Good luck!!

Sheryl,

On a different note (but not really), your daughter is just in time to sign up for and participate in the Iditaread! It is a reading activity in which she chooses an Iditarod musher and then she tries to read one page for every mile that "her" musher races. It is even more exciting if "her" musher ends up finishing well in the Iditarod!

Here is the website: http://www.idita-read.org/

Thank you for this. I knew about it from previous posts here over the years and forgot about it. Just in the nick of time. I'll check into it.
