ldee
I am incharge of coordinating our annual curriculum review. This is when 7-9 moms talk about a curriculum that they are using and like. We are all set up to this Friday. EXCEPT...I need a handout of helpful tips, website listings, character studies, discipleship and training our children's hearts. I need to compile a top 10 or 20 list / handout to give at the review. I have only my ideas so far. Can my cyberfriends help me with this?? You are a wealth of information, I have learned so much the past 4 years from this group. Thank you.:grouphug: ldee
Alana in Canada
What exactly do you need? Do you need a list of resources on these topics? character studies, discipleship and training our children's hearts. I have heard excellent things about "Laying Down the Rails" from Simply SCharlotte Mason. http://simplycharlottemason.com/books/laying-down-rails-charlotte-mason-habits/ Personally, I purchased the Doorposts curriculum: "For Instruction in Righteousness" for us to use. I'm afraid I'm not proactive with it. I tend to take it out whenever a particular problem has occurred, and use it to ind a Bible story for my children to read. Then we talk about the behaviour in the context of the story and what God wants of us.
ldee
I can use anything from your favorite resource, an online Bible Study, or just a tip like : "I do not touch any housework during school hours because I get too easily distracted." What you posted was perfect

TMarie
Make a daily schedule and stick to it! :001_smile:
Ruthie
Choose a couple of days where you will not leave the house. Don't make appts in the morning because of your "flexibilty". I schedule dr and all appts after 2pm always. Unless it is a very difficult to get dr, then I do have the flexibilty!:) Ruth
dhudson
Make a plan and set goals for your home school ( long term and short term) and each child. We have goals set up for our school (what we want our children to know and to be when they are 18) and that gives us a much better picture for choosing curriculum and activities. Since we have done this, home schooling and our choices have seemed more clear cut. "Does it fit our goals or not?" If yes, we keep it, if no we get rid of it. Make yearly goals for each child. We have 3 goals in 3 areas, personal, spiritual and academic and we work towards those. We put these up for the kids to work toward and they receive prizes when they have shown mastery of those goals. Some goals never change it seems but we see progress. Lisa Kjeld...in CA
Kendra at preschoolersandpeace.com has fabulous tips and resources! You could pull a lot of information from her site. Hope your night goes well; it sounds like a lot of fun!
birchbark
One tip that I've tried this year is setting aside core subjects for one day (we use Friday) and just focus on the things that I find hard to get to. Art, science experiments, music, foreign language, etc. Also have loved: http://www.amazon.com/Home-Learning-Year-Homeschool-Curriculum/dp/0609805851/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1233875102&sr=1-1 the last few years. LizzyBee
Remember that you're teaching your children, not the curriculum. Don't get so tied to a curriculum or methodology that you can't adjust it to fit your children. One of my favorite quotes is from Cindy Gaddis: Listen to your children. They will tell you how they learn.

Alana in Canada
A fabulous must-have resource for a new HSers is Cathy Duffy's 100 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum. It not only touches on Curriculum, but learning styles which is also important--and how to formulate your own philosophy of Education (and how various curr. fits in with both). TMarie
Idee, We're also planning a small event here. I'm not sure what we called it last year, but this year I'm so stealing the name Curriculum Review! How would you feel about sharing your flyer?
